Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will a hair system ruin my natural hair?

A) As long as the hair extensions are applied properly and your client follows proper at home hair care guidelines, there should be no damage to the natural hair.

2) Why is there a lot of hair coming out at the maintenance?

A) Shedding is a natural process for all people. On average a client sheds 40-100 natural strands of hair daily. If half of your client’s hair is locked into a bead with an extension, they will still shed their natural hair. This is a normal process and can be scary for a client to see when you remove the system. Reassure your client that they lose hair daily and this is a normal process.

3) Will people think I have a wig on?

A) If you are looking for the Hair system then the answer will be yes. A Hair Integration is the same foundation as a wig just attached semi-permanently to the natural hair.

4) Is the application painful?

A) There should never be any pain associated with having a Hair Integrated System. They may be some scalp tenderness for the first few nights of sleeping on your extensions but that is all.

5) Can hair extensions be coloured?

A) Yes, Remy hair can be darkened with oxidative colours. Although, Remy hair is human with the cuticle infact it has been chemically treated as part of the manufacturing process. To keep integrity of your Remy hair. It is advised to use a demi-colour in your colouring process. If you are customizing or colouring the hair extensions to match your client’s hair, choose an extension slightly lighter than the desired shade and deepen it. It is not available to lighten, highlight or perm.

6) Can hair extensions be cut?

A) Yes, but it takes a special skill when cutting or blending someone’s Hair System, especially if the client is wanted a style. Someone who is not specifically trained to cut or blend extensions should never attempt to do so.

7) Can I use Normal Shampoo?

A) You’ve probably heard it over and over: only use sulphate-free shampoo. This is because that lather that forms when you shampoo comes from sulphates contained in the shampoo. Those sulphates help to clean your scalp and hair of oils and build up. The problem is your new hair extensions do not produce oil. Bottom line. Sulphates will dry out new extensions and strip them of their colour.

8) How should I advise my client to take care of their hair extensions?

At home care will include the following guidelines:

Sleep with your hair in a loose braid (preferred) or ponytail.
Never go to bed with your hair wet. As this causes matting on your natural hair.
Always hold the root of your hair before brushing.
Use a soft nylon, boar bristle or loop brush that is safe for hair extensions brush your hair every day  from roots through ends.
Wash your hair extensions carefully using a sulphate free shampoo. Never tip your head or hair upside down to shampoo. Condition your mid shaft to ends. Gently squeeze with a towel to remove excess water. Never vigorously rub your hair with a towel. Detangle extensions by holding the root (extension bond area) of your hair and detangling with a large tooth comb. You may also use a leave-in conditioning spray on your extensions.
Clients may use hair styling products.
To keep your extensions in great shape, let them dry fully as much as possible: if you choose to use a blow dryer use it on a low setting. Do not flip your head over to dry. Keep your head up right and concentrate the airflow downward, in the direction of the cuticle.
If you choose to swim wearing your extensions, spray your hair with leave in conditioner and then braid before swimming. Then shampoo and condition hair immediately after leaving the pool.
Be careful not to pull your hair with aggressive brushing, shampooing or styling your hair. Do not place hair in tight ponytail, braid or bun.
